What makes us different

A real centre to walk into, and a way of learning that travels with you.

Most programmes ask a child to pick one: a building with a bell, or a screen on their own. We run both, in the same week, on one plan. A swimmer trains in the morning and works at the centre after. A young violinist takes her theory online between rehearsals. A child who is doing well in a mainstream school comes to us for the subjects that need more room.

Small enough that nobody disappears

Our centre sessions are capped at ten students and staff at a time. That number is the whole point — it is small enough for a tutor to notice the moment a child goes quiet, and small enough to run a robotics build or a music session properly.

Our online students are not left with a login and good luck. Their portals are monitored constantly, help arrives when it is needed rather than at the end of term, and career pathway counselling runs alongside the academics from the start.

We keep everything personalised by keeping the room small. Every session at the centre is limited to ten students and staff at a time, which is why a place has to be planned rather than simply bought.

We do not have one kind of student. We have one way of starting.

Every child arrives with a plan made for them — which is why children on very different roads can sit in the same session without either of them being held up.

Sport, arts, music, science, robotics. The training or the practice is not a hobby to be fitted in around school, so we build the academic week around it and plan the road ahead towards where that talent actually leads.

Mainstream capable

The child who manages well anywhere

Plenty of our students could do fine in a mainstream school, and some are in one. They come to us to move faster than a year group allows, to close a gap properly, or to take subjects their school does not offer.

Learning differently

The child who was told they were behind

Children with difficulties, and children who simply do not fit the shape they were handed. We start from strengths, name the weaknesses out loud without shame, and custom-make the learning style from there.

Where it leads

A qualification at the end, and a choice about which one.

Learning in your own style only counts for something if it finishes with paperwork the world accepts. We run two routes, and a student can take both.

International route

American High School Diploma

ICanLearnProgram International is approved and connected to Switched On Education, under the board of Cognia schools, which is Cambridge approved. Students work through a full digital curriculum — English language arts, mathematics, science, history and geography — with online electives and Career & Technical Education courses on top.

Local route

Botswana & regional examinations

We also connect students to their local examinations, so a child learning in their own style at our centre still sits the papers their family and their country recognise. Through BEC in Botswana, students can write the national examinations, and IGCSE is available for those heading that way.

How we begin

We do not start with an exam. We start with playtime.

Before we teach a child, we get to know how they learn. The first step here is not a test — it is a relaxed, playful evaluation session where we watch, listen, and learn how your child naturally thinks, explores and solves a problem when nobody is marking them.

That session is what shapes the plan we build around them, rather than the other way around. It is also the point at which most parents hear something about their child that no report card has ever told them.

  • What we see there becomes the first draft of their learning plan

Listen

A conversation with the child and the family. What they are strong at, what they avoid, what makes them light up, and what has gone wrong before.

Place

Placement work gives an honest starting point per subject — not a label, and not a year group they have to pretend to fit.

Design

We custom-make the learning style: subjects, pace, centre days, online days, activities, and which exam route the plan is heading for.

Walk it

Constant monitoring of the portal, help when it is needed, career pathway counselling, and a plan that is rewritten as the child changes.

The founder

It started on a mountain, a long way from a classroom.

Jillian M Sigamoney is a South African communications specialist holding an MD and a PhD, with over twenty years of in-field experience across the medical field and education — two worlds that both punish you for explaining things badly. Her work has always come back to the same question: what happens if you teach a person in the style they actually learn in?

The ICanLearnProgram hybrid system began developing itself in the late 1990s, on the mountain tops among the hill tribes of Thailand and later in the hidden villages of Botswana. In places where no single method fitted anybody, developing people in their own style of learning stopped being a technique and became a passion. That passion is the ICanLearnProgram of today.

Teaching runs four generations deep in her family, beginning with her great-grandfather Reverend BL Sigamoney, who founded the first Indian boys' school in Durban during apartheid. More than 3,000 students around the world have since been taught through the method she built on one starting question for every child: how do you learn?

Jillian is an author — the author of I Am Not A Product and Beyond Labels — a Microsoft Expert, a content and programme creator, and the designer of the activities our students work through. She was named among the Top 50 People of 2014 and received a “Woman in Action” recognition in 2025. She works directly with children on their style of learning, and with the graduates and education majors who now teach inside the system she built.

After speaking at TEDx Gaborone on why a child is not a product, she pressed forward to make hybrid learning a reality for children with difficulties, and equally for the children who simply cannot be made to fit into a box.

Youth empowerment

The people teaching are close enough in age to be believed.

Youth empowerment is not a slogan on our wall — it is our staffing model. Graduates, education majors and young specialists work inside our system, mentoring students who are only a few years behind them.

It changes what a child is willing to admit they find hard. It also gives young people real work, real responsibility and a reference that means something, in a region where those are difficult to come by.
